Compounding Engineer OH 70 - 85k (J#14688)
Education: Bachelors Degree
Experience: 4 - 9 years

Growing and successful plastic company with multiple locations is searching for a Compounding Engineer.

Primary Responsibilities within Compounding Unit:

Compounding Unit Processing Support:

Provide daily support for compounding unit process optimization
Insure process safety for operation of the unit
Issue run book instructions for commercial product grades
Optimize product grade transitions using lean methodologies
Insure quality and yield of compounds to world class standards

Compounding Unit Reliability:

Focus on reliability and up time of compounding lines
Identify reliability gaps and develop solutions along with other technical resources in the plant

Capital Projects:

Capability to identify, justify, manage and successfully execute small capital projects

New Product Development:

Support execution of new product test runs and/or process studies within the commercial compounding unit
Work with R&D and test coordinator to commercialize grades including setting specifications according to customer needs and process capability using statistical methodologies

Qualifications - Required:

Four year BS degree or higher in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
Five Plus years experience in process engineering or production engineering in a compounding operation
Well developed interpersonal and communication skills easily capable of working directly with all levels of the business including operating technicians, support staff, R&D engineers and sales personnel
Possess a strong technical background with compounding operations, particularly Farrell Continuous Mixers, Twin Screw Extruders and Single Screw Extruders
Ability to frame up, prioritize, and execute process improvements according to value, cost and risk with limited supervision

Qualification/Experience - Desired:

Common compounding hardware, such as underwater pelletizers, loss in weight feeders, liquid metering systems, dryers, and solids handling equipment
Experience with compounding Styrenic Block Copolymers
Project concept, premise, and economic justification development experience
Six Sigma and/or Lean Manufacturing experience preferred. Green Belt or Black Belt Certification would be advantageous
